Serve at Mass

Liturgical Ministers are essential to our liturgies. Each ministry helps provide a beautiful and spiritually uplifting liturgy as we gather as the Body of Christ.  While the responsibilities may differ slightly between our parishes, the gratitude for our volunteers serving in a liturgical ministry does not.  If you are interested in volunteering for any of the roles below, please contact Meg Kastner at St. Catherine or Margie Benza at Transfiguration. A two to three month schedule is prepared in advance for these roles, based on your availability.

Greeters

Welcome all individuals to the liturgical service with a smile and a cheery "hello'.  Roles differ slightly between the churches.   You may be asked to hand out hymnals, enlist the help of gift bearers and collectors, and count the attendance. This is an excellent ministry for families.

Ushers

Our usher ministry welcomes our parish family and visitors on their arrival at Mass.  Stationed in the Gathering Area and inside the church, they are available to help.  Ushers provide additional security for our attendees, observing the parking lot and our entrances during Mass, and sometimes helping with parking during the packed holiday Masses.

Acolytes-Altar Servers

Our altar servers carry the candles and the cross in the procession and assist the presider during the Mass. This ministry is open to boys and girls who have received First Holy Eucharist.   Adults are also welcome to this ministry.  Training is provided.

Lectors and Commentators

This ministry proclaims the Word of God, offers the Prayers of the Faithful, or makes parish announcements at our liturgies.   All confirmed parishioners (teens-adults) may serve in this ministry. Roles differs slightly between the two parishes.  Training is provided.

Minister of Communion

The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith.  It is a privilege to offer the Body of Christ, with reverence and respect, to our faithful.  All confirmed parishioners (teens-adults) may serve in this ministry, with Diocesan paperwork required.

Coffee and Donut/Lemonade on the Porch

At Transfiguration, one of our parish traditions is coffee and donuts during the fall, winter and spring seasons after the 8:45 a.m. Mass.  Volunteers can sign up to pick up the donuts in Bushnell's Basin, or to make coffee prior to Mass and prepare the donuts, or to clean up after Mass.   This is an excellent ministry for families!  At St. Catherine, Lemonade on the Porch is offered during the summer at the 10:45 a.m. Mass, and there are special receptions during the year.  Volunteers will be asked to help make and serve the lemonade, and clean up.

Music Ministry

Want to join the fun in the choir loft? New members are always accepted, no weekly commitment is expected.  We love to have instrumental and vocal talent join in!  Just share your gift when you can, and we'll all be glad to receive it!  Stop by before or after Mass and see the music leader - or call Pam McInerney at St. Catherine and Sue Wallace at Transfiguration.

Projectionist

This individual is responsible for setting up the laptop and showing the PowerPoint presentation during Mass.  St. Catherine does this at every weekend and Holy Day Mass, at Transfiguration this is only done when someone requests slides be shown for hymn lyrics, a homily, or a special presentation.  Experience using a laptop is required.

Livestream and Sound

Our Sunday Masses are livestreamed, and we always are looking for volunteers to assist.  The stream needs to be initiated on our equipment and YouTube, camera angles need to be changed, and sound (both in the church and on the livestream) needs to be monitored.  In addition, comments are monitored and at Transfiguration, we have a chat script that is entered during Mass, telling those at home what the readings and hymns are, and encouraging participation.  This is a wonderful chance to learn some new technology, and our teen volunteers excel at this ministry.  On occasion volunteers are needed for funerals and wedding livestreams as well.   If you are interested, just stop by control room or contact Jeff Beckett (Jeff's email)
